Admittedly, I'm way behind the curve on this one - but I didn't want to let it pass without saying it here - the Journey collection is at Michael's! I feel like it's been forever since it was designed, which usually translates into 'i've moved on and like other things now' but I really, honestly, I still love this collection. It turned out better than I could have expected.
Everyone else in the office here has been posting about it on their blogs, so I won't repost all the same pictures, but click here if you haven't seen some of the projects that have used the collection:
Okay so here I thought I'd give you a little behind the scene's look at the designing of the collection.
This was the very first Journey design:
Paper number one! So it was kind of from this look that the collection took form. A blend of type, ephemera, neutral+muted colors and special little details. Speaking of special details - we included a wide range of product for this collection. Metal charms, ribbons and string, transparencies and some of my personal favorites - envelopes and paper tape! Remember this page I posted a long time ago...
Idea! Envelopes are so useful and fun on scrapbook pages - how great would a package of ready to use, coordinating envelopes be? Um, pretty great. Enter Envelope product...
(ok disclaimer, photo taken on phone - super busy over here. AND let me just tell you, this collection is tricky to come by in this office - you're lucky I even managed to find some to photograph)
Oh! and on the right hand side of the envelopes up there is the embellishment kit - everything you need to embellish a page tucked into one handy little package. Embellish on the go, you know.
Have I talked enough about tape on this blog yet? I don't think so. SO I will tell you about how there are four rolls of patterned paper tape in the Journey collection. Which - I could not find anywhere in the office to photograph (I told you, this stuff is a hot commodity) but here are the patterns for reference...
Yes, teeny tiny tape, you are so cute and useful.
There are 2 different Soft Spoken Value packs - they come with a title piece, dimensional soft spoken pieces and a sticker sheet. Which is pretty great, because you get a lot in one product. But my favorite part of them is this little phrase on the 'our Travels' themed one - off we go into the wild blue yonder - My Grandpa always says that when we go places, it makes me laugh. :-) (of course, I couldn't find the actual product to photograph..boo, sorry)
And, due to my obsessive notebook carrying tendency (you know I have to have something to doodle in at all times) it made perfect sense to me that Journey needed a travel notebook. It has pockets in the front and back cover to hold the things you need on the go and it comes with postcards you can punch out and send to people while you're gone. Rad? I think so. I took one with me the other month when I went on a bit of a traveling jaunt (new york, milwaukee, chicago, middle of illinois, chicago - don't ask, I'm tired just remembering it all). But it was very useful to have one little booklet devoted to that trip.
And so to close this little information session on Journey - the paper I think would be my favorite, if i was pressed to choose...
Hurry up and grab some from Michael's while you still can!
from the work files: Gemstones. Galore.
(well okay, colored faceted plastic shapes... but who cares... they're shiny)!
it's been busy here in the office. which means the floor around my desk gets covered on a regular basis...
This photo is actually from October... AND! what you see has all turned into real product and is about to hit the shelves at your local Michael's!! Seriously - this travel collection is probably my favorite collection yet. And I swear I'm not just saying that because it is the newest. More to come on this soon... but get ready for this - there is tape!
April is FULL of birthday's in my family. This past weekend we celebrated the little sister's 21st birthday.
To mark 21 years we threw a mocktail party complete with fake little bar and pretty golden cupcakes. It was an upscale affair...or really just an excuse to dress to impress and drink pretty little cocktail beverages without the alcohol - it was fabulous. Very much little sister's style.
My personal favorite beverage was a lavender lemonade spritzer.
I pretty much loved planning the party. The invitations were the best (I still like them...which is saying something, since I change my mind so quickly!) but it's so fun to put together flowers and set up little candle vignettes and banners and turn a normal room into somewhere special to spend time with friends.
Probably the most amount of time I've ever spent making cupcakes...not because they were hard, but because I am typically a messy baker. And normally my cupcakes do not stay in their little wrappers. But with extra care and a extreme effort in being patient - success! Pretty gems.
This was our small makeshift bar area. I wish I had thought to cut off those curly cue ribbons before I took this picture...they kind of bug me. Oh well, they didn't ruin the party :-) and I do love the little banners with paper fringe. In fact...I have more ideas for that...check back later this week for extrapolation on that point...
Happy Birthday little sister!
(And oh my goodness, I wish it could be night time and have excellent lighting at the same time. I'm expecting way too much out of my mediocre photo skills)
Finally the Thursday night farmers market down the street is back in business. Which makes me so happy. Especially happy since yesterday I found ranunculus there. It didn't even matter that I had just bought sunflowers the day before at the grocery (they just looked so cheerful!)...when I see ranunculus, I can't help myself. And really, I just want to draw them, so it's not even an unnecessary purchase. I NEEDED them to be artistic.
Hope your Easter weekend is filled with as lovely of things as these...
Last night I decorated eggs with some friends. And it's a fact - you can put rhinestones on anything. I also used some stickers and I think they look fun. But the stickers takes a certain amount of patience that I lack, turns out it's pretty important that the egg be very dry before you put them on. But If you have scrapbooking supplies lying around, you should pull them out for egg decorating!
And I share an office with Hannah (the art director's assistant) and I can see an Easter related blog post brewing on the other side of the room, so check out the Mambi Blog later see that too.
Yes. I know. It's been awhile. A very long while. But you see, it's been very busy here and I have a million excuses, but I'm just going to skip all that and start blogging again. Because I think I've missed it! And because being busy at work means there are all sorts of new things brewing over here and eventually, I'm going to want to share them with you. But for now - work related sharing - this is the disaster I have made of my office...I tend to lay everything I'm working on on the ground (for excellent viewing purposes, obviously) and well...this photo doesn't even come close to how bad it can get. The other week I'm pretty sure there was no carpet to step on I had so many papers lying about.
oh and speaking of things going on at work...did you know there is now an official Me & My Big Ideas blog? It's true. Click here to check it out. AND, we're on facebook, so you can become a fan. We're so with it over here.
And just to catch you up, here are few of my favorite things as of late...

this picnic tea party that was on oh joy! by Lauryl Lane
Taking a break looks like this...
trips to the city, and baking cookies and watching the snow fall in the back yard and holding brand new babies born conveniently on the day I arrived home...
Nothing beats being home. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas this week! I know I will spending many hours parked in front of this little beauty of a tree next to the fireplace...
Oh and have you seen this little polaroid maker application - poladroid? It's been sitting on my desktop for months since I downloaded it and have had no time to play with it..but oh boy! is it fun! Click here to download it and have fun polaroid-ing everything. I'll try to resist turing every photo into a polaroid...but it will be difficult...
and this month is almost gone. Um, woah, how did that happen?! The level of busy over here is out. of. control. I have had this blog post started for days now... finishing it is apparently quite the challenge.
Ahh, but it's such a fun crazy busy. For example - Christmas wrapping. Love it. Have spent WAY too much time doing this though...
fabric ribbon and cd sleeves as gift tags...
more time consuming than I anticipated?...perhaps. But it's fun, so I don't care. And now they are tucked away in my suitcase, along with what is sure to be an excessive amount of clothes, ready to be unveiled when we reach the snow...
...oh please let there be snow...
